The mission of the Czech Geological Survey, the history of which dates back to 1919, is to carry out the state geological surveys in the Czech Republic. The Survey collects and processes data on the geological structure of the territory of the Czech state and passes them on to administrative authorities for political, economic and ecological decision making. The Survey also provides regional geological information to all individuals and bodies which are interested in geology.
The Czech Geological Survey is a state subsidised organisation and serves as a research institute subordinate to the Ministry of the Environment.
